A resurgent the Russian player won his initial championship for over two years with a win over Corentin Moutet in the tournament title decider.

The Russian, a ex- number one, has experienced a challenging year, winning just one match at the Grand Slams and suffering a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

His inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his service game in especial - caused him dropping out of the elite rankings and ultimately splitting with former mentor his previous coach.

Now working with his coach and his other coach, he has consistently advanced in the past month - culminating in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over opponent Corentin Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's maiden championship since the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard court from spring of the previous year.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a event with my children simultaneously, so to secure a title is really nice," stated tennis professional the champion.

"This victory is in honour of my younger daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I got when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his last six title deciders, comprising in that event earlier this year.

His counter-punching strategy and frequent emotional displays on court had prompted some to doubt if his capacity to play at the top level was finished.

But the athlete has altered his approach in the last few weeks, attempting to advance forward and play positively, backed up by an enhanced service.

The champion recovered from a deficit in the initial set against the tricky Moutet, winning 4 of the concluding five games to take the lead.

The competitors traded service breaks in the following set before the challenger, attempting for his initial ATP Tour victory, took control to create a decider.

Moutet rescued 4 initial opportunities in a tight third set before the Russian secured a break to that score to serve for the match.

Fittingly, Medvedev clinched the win with a shot at the net area, with his opponent failing to manage a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
